INSIGNI Objects explore the sculptural potential of timber beyond traditional furniture.
Each piece begins with a singular slab or form discovered in the workshop, developed into a functional object where light, structure and material interact.
INSIGNI Objects
Functional sculpture in wood, resin and light
Lumen I is formed from a single slab of spalted sycamore, selected for the flowing movement within the grain and the natural contours of the timber.
The organic form is held in quiet tension between three steel uprights, rising from a circular base that allows the sculpture to stand lightly within a space.
Concealed lighting sits behind the timber, allowing the piece to be viewed primarily in silhouette. When softly illuminated from the rear, the form glows gently while the natural figure of the wood emerges as subtle shadows within the surface.
The cresting upper edge and sweeping lower curve create a changing outline as the viewer moves around the piece, emphasising the sculptural character of the slab.
Rather than dominating the timber, the structure and lighting are used with restraint, allowing the natural form and grain of the sycamore to remain the primary focus.
Viewed in low light, the piece becomes defined as much by its silhouette as by its material presence, giving the piece a quiet architectural presence.
The INSIGNI Objects series will evolve alongside the studio collection, exploring light, sculpture and material in new forms.
