Obsidian II walnut live edge table by INSIGNI

Obsidian II is formed from solid walnut, selected for the striking movement revealed within the grain.

A broad band of darker heartwood flows through the centre of the slab, framed by pale sapwood that preserves the natural outline of the tree.

The live edges remain intact, allowing the original contours of the timber to define the character of the piece.

Subtle fissures within the wood are stabilised with dark resin, reinforcing the structure while maintaining the organic integrity of the slab.

This piece forms part of the Obsidian pair, two tables created from closely related slabs.

Although cut from the same source, each table reveals a different composition of grain, contrast and form, preserving the natural individuality present within the tree.

The surface is finished with restraint, protecting the timber while allowing the depth and figure of the walnut to remain dominant.

Viewed from different angles, the grain patterns shift and deepen, while the refined bevel transitioning to the live edge keeps the overall form balanced and visually light.
